How long will it take?
Everyone’s different. You might get through your lessons and pass your test in less time than your friends (or brother or sister). Or you might take longer. The Driving Standards Agency, which runs the Driving Tests and monitors Driving Instructors, recommends around 45 hours with an Approved Driving Instructor with 20 or more hours of private practice.

Accelerate Driver Training will also offer guidance for your parents or friends - there are rules about who can accompany you for private practice. We encourage your parent or friend to sit in whilst you have a lesson with the Instructor so they can see how we help you. We’ll also offer to take a look at their driving to offer to see if their driving matches what we’re teaching you. Of course, whilst you’ll be really safe with your instructor, it’s essential that your lessons prepare you to be safe when you’re driving alone or with friends or family.

The New Drivers Act affects drivers that passed their Driving Test on or after 1st June 1997. If you get 6 or more penalty points on your licence within two years of passing your driving test the DVLA will revoke your driving licence.

To regain your full licence you must:
Get your Provisional Licence again and only drive when accompanied by licence holder. You must not drive on Motorways until you've re-passed your driving test. Very embarrassing!
Pass the theory and practical test again. Very expensive!
Then you must inform your car insurance company. More expense!

Points counting towards the total of 6 include any you received up to 3 years before your latest penalty point offence. Points imposed after the 2 year period will also count if the offence was committed during that period. Passing the retest does not remove penalty points from your licence, and if your total points reaches 12, you are still liable to be disqualified. (Just like everyone else!).In some parts of the country, if you get just 3 points, and dependent on the offence, you might well be put onto a Pass Plus, Speed Awareness or Driver Improvement course. Very good experience, but again, an expense you could have avoided.

With a Collingwood Learner Driver Insurance policy you can insure any car, group 15 or less and under £20,000 in value, when you need it, from as short as a week.
